This is the personal website of, you guessed it, Nate Steffen.
The purpose of this site is to allow me to play with FreeBSD, Apache, Perl, and whatever other technologies I find interesting this week.
Being primarily a developer on Microsoft platforms in the past, I didn't get much of a chance to use other technologies at work.
With a lot of help from google and a coworker, I set up the machine that hosted this site, and came up with most what you see here.
I have since rewritten most of the content, and the site is hosted on a new box, although it still runs FreeBSD.
If this is your first visit to my site, you may find the articles section interesting.

Well I finally got a new car.
I had been without a car for a few weeks after the lease was up on my 350Z, and it was starting to get really cold riding my motorcycle to work every morning.
I had been wanting a beamer for a while after getting hooked on European cars with my VW, so I went out and bought a used BMW 330xi sedan over in Peoria.
The decision to buy a used car rather than buy or lease another new one was helped by the fact that I now have a motorcycle for the summer, so I don't necessarily need a super fun summer car.
If I get a chance I might throw some pictures up.

Ali had a 2007 GSX-R also until last week.
We were riding through the country on a two lane highway when a deer jumped out in front of him.
He took a pretty good spill, but actually was very lucky to have minor injuries.
He ended up with a little road rash on his elbows, knees, back, and hands.
A minor surgery to fix his broken nut and he should be fully recovered shortly.
Check out the pictures

I went out and bought a motorcycle yesterday. It is a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600 sportbike.
This is the first street bike I have ever owned, hopefully it and I survive intact :)

So I bought a guitar, and discovered that it has been so long since I played any kind of instrument I had forgotten almost everything I had learned in years of piano lessons and school band classes.
It's all starting to come back to me now though.
I can already read most sheet music again, and I am working on scales and chords.
Expect my first album out soon :)

New site launched! At the behest of Tim Henning, I spent about 6 hours redesigning the site.
The new site uses just HTML and Perl, and is not driven by a database anymore.
I may decide to bring back the forums, but for the time being they are gone.
